August 2015 Newsletter

Salutations to our august August readers,

I hope you've been enjoying your summer at least as much as I have! Here are a few updates and goings-on that might be of interest to you:

There's a new post up on the Effing Foundation blog. If you can raise money for porn on IndieGoGo, is launching a sex-positive grantmaking platform really what the Effing Foundation should be doing? We say yes, and here's why.

UnSlut: A Documentary Film, directed by the amazing Emily Lindin of the UnSlut Project, is now available for screening! If you're in the Boston area, join me on September 3. See if there's a screening near you (or if not, organize one!) via Tugg.

Our friends at Comingle.io and several other small sex-toy companies are under siege from a patent troll that claims to own the patent on All Teledildonics Ever--basically, all computer-controlled sex toys! See this article by the Electronic Frontier Foundation for why this patent should never have been granted. If you know of any prior art (computer-controlled sex tech devices dated before August 1997), can get Comingle in touch with a pro-bono patent attorney, and/or can chip in to their legal defense fund, please help!

If you identify as transgender or gender non-conforming, join me in signing up to take the 2015 US Trans Survey. (They specifically invite participation from non-binary and genderqueer folks, which is why I'm doing it!) The survey will be available on August 19, and it will be an important source of data for researchers, community advocates, and policymakers for years to come.

I finally have the ability to edit our grantmaking platform source code on my local machine, so hopefully over the next month I'll be able to get the site ready for potential payment processors to examine. Once we're sure we can get payment processing, then it's on to incorporation and fundraising.

Thanks again for your support and encouragement!

Peace,
~Kit Stubbs, Ph.D.
