March 2016 Newsletter

Ahoy, sex-positive supporters!

I've spent the past month reworking our mission statement and strategic plan to be more IRS-friendly, and I've started discussing those updates with our Board. It's not finalized yet, but here's the current draft:

Our mission is to reduce sexual shame by fostering artists and educators who do sex-positive projects. As defined by Dr. Carol Queen, "Sex-positivity refers to a radical stance: accepting everyone’s sexual desires and choices, providing they’re consensually engaged in."  The Effing Foundation for Sex-Positivity promotes sexuality education and artistic expression of sexuality through programs that are inclusive of women, people who are members of gender/sexuality/relationship minorities, people of color, people of size, and people with disabilities. By increasing public knowledge about human sexuality and sex-positivity, we promote sexual literacy, health, and wellness worldwide.

Whew! It's a mouthful, but I think it says what we need it to say. This month, I'll continue to work with the Board on this and also start updating our Terms of Service.

Other updates and tidbits:

  • For folks interested in making their own silicone sex toys, check out Chick Makes Dick, a journal of one new toymaker's experiments.
  • If you prefer your toys premade, there's a new dildo being crowdfunded that's got my attention: the Lioness vibrator. It's got a number of sensors built in so that you can look at your own arousal/orgasm data.
  • In support of body-positivity, "Shark Week" is my new favorite song by the fabulous queer teen singer/songwriter Zoe Gray. Trust me, it's hilarious.

Thanks again for all of your support and encouragement!

Peace,
~Kit Stubbs, Ph.D.
