October 2017 Newsletter

Happy October, Foundation friends!

This month we're delighted to welcome a new Advisor to our Council, Aida Manduley, MSW:

Aida Manduley, MSW

Aida Manduley is an award-winning Latinx activist and presenter known for big earrings and building bridges. Trained as a sexuality educator, social worker, and nonprofit manager, they’re working to make the word a more equitable place through education, therapy, and community organizing. Hailing from Puerto Rico with over a decade of activism under their belt, they have presented across North America on a variety of sexuality topics and their intersections with issues such as digital literacy and racial justice. Manduley completed their Master’s of Social Work at Boston University—with a focus on aging populations—and holds a B.A. in Gender and Sexuality Studies from Brown University, where they won awards for leadership and fostering diversity. Past projects include sexual health and LGBTQ work at a domestic violence agency, crisis-response with victims of sexual assault, and leadership on a number of national and regional coalitions on HIV prevention, comprehensive sexuality education, and LGBTQ anti-violence. Their other areas of expertise include organizational development, sexual stigma, non-monogamy, kink/BDSM, and youth education. You can poke them on Twitter (@neuronbomb), sign up for their newsletter, and find out more on their website.

I have known and respected Aida as a member of the Boston sex-positive community for a number of years, and I'm honored to have them join the Council.

This past month, the Advisory Council has been helping to identify other promising candidates for the Council as well as cool potential projects for pilot grants. With help from Heidi, our bookkeeper, I've entered all of our financial records into an Actual Accounting Program like we're a real business or something. Woah.

For the next couple of weeks, I'll be scrambling to get as much done as I can before a month of heavy travel (some vacation & some work). In particular:

If you're in the New York / New Jersey area, I'll be in town for our first ever Jersey teasecraft kinky maker meetup hosted by DEFCON 201 on November 17 (more details forthcoming on http://defcon201.org/ & https://twitter.com/defcon201nj).

Happy Autumn to everyone (and a Merry Pumpkin Spice Season to those who partake.) Thank you for all of your support and encouragement, and I'll be back with more  updates in December!

Peace,

~Kit Stubbs, Ph.D.
